Garlock develops and manufactures its own technical yarn braided into packaging, along with high performance proprietary coatings, which are essential in this day and age of meeting sealing performance requirements.

The PTFE gland packing garlock was created as a sealing device, but because it has to drip, it is more accurately referred to as a restrictional device. Usually made with a braided or woven system in the shape of a box section. The constituent materials can be graphite, acrylic, PTFE, asbestos etc. This tool has a function to control leakage, not to prevent all leaks. Gland Packing should always be lubricated and the recommended leakage to maintain lubrication is about 40 to 60 drops per minute.
